1922 Rotogravure President Theodore Roosevelt Funeral Procession Grave Portrait
This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of President Theodore Roosevelt's funeral procession, and his gravestone at Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. Roosevelt served as the 26th president of the United States, and is remembered for his leadership in the Progressive Movement and for his conservation efforts. He went on an African safari after his presidency to east and central Africa, and traveled to Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and then followed the Nile river to Sudan. There, he produced several animal specimens for the Smithsonian Institute. As much as it were a safari in the name of science, it was well known that Roosevelt loved the thrill of the hunt as well. The teddy bear was named after Roosevelt-- stemming from a story in which he refused to shoot a tied up and exhausted black bear. CONDITIONThis 89+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++.
