This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of French telephone and telegraph service units during World War I. Shown in the bottom image are troops pulling out the wire. The caption writes, "Paying out the wire from drums near the headquarters of a French division. In order to escape detection and cutting by the enemy the wires had to be buried and the ground cunningly camouflaged so as to prevent its location being discovered. Hundreds of miles of wire were strung from one point to another, so that every regiment, every trench, every outpost, could have immediate communication, if needed, with headquarters or with each other."CONDITIONThis 89+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++.
