This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of a tank waiting to advance during the Battle of Menin Road in Belgium during 1917. The center image shows an overturned tank after sinking into a shell crater, and the bottom image depicts a French tank on its way to the battle front. The caption for the latter image writes, "French tank, on its way to the front, passing through a battle-scarred village and being watched with interest by American soldiers standing near."
