This is an original 1931 black and white halftone print of 16th Street Northwest in Washington, D. C., as viewed from Meridian Hill Park. Landmarks visible in this image include the embassies of the Spanish, French, Mexican, Italian, Polish, Cuban, Persian and Lithuanian. The Scottish Rite Masonic Temple is also visible in this image. Originally, many of the embassies were located on 16th Street due to its proximity to the White House, however, a plethora of churches also moved in. When the majority of the embassies relocated to Embassy Row (Massachusetts Avenue), this street became known as Church Row. Photography courtesy of Albert W. Stevens.
