This is an original 1934 photogravure of the interior of the St. Stephen Catherdal in Halberstadt, Germany (Deutschland). The cathedral was built in the 13th century, and has several surviving tapestries from the 12th century. Halberstadt is also the home of another church that is in the process of performing John Cage's "As Slow As Possible". The church began playing the piece in 2001 and is scheduled to take 639 years to complete. The piece started out with a rest that held for 17 months. The photographer of this image is Ed Bissinger of Erfurt, Germany. Period Paper is pleased to offer an exceptional collection of historic original photogravures of the landscape, architecture, and people of pre-war Germany. The actual border around the photogravure is larger than what is shown in the digital image, and each image usually has a caption in German, English, French, and Italian which will be included with the item when shipped. However, we wanted to show you the actual image up close
