This is an original 1938 black and white photogravure of a painting by Italian Renaissance artist Cima da Conegliano which depicts the sleeping Endymion being watched by a half-moon, symbol of the Titan Goddess Selene who was completely in love with him. Legend has it that they had a grand total of fifty daughters, which were collectively referred to as the Menae and made goddesses of the lunar months.
