Thibaud Boudignon is originally from Bordeaux, and, before launching his career in winemaking, practiced competitive judo. He began to make wine under his own name in 2009, after his mother passed away, leaving him money as well as instructions that he put it to good use. He started his winery with a scant 3.5 hectares (about 8.5 acres) in the heart of Anjou and Savennières, in the Loire Valley. Previously, he had worked as the winemaker at Château Soucherie, in Savennières, managing the estate’s transition to organic viticulture. Knowing that the quality of the fruit was the most important factor in creating his own wines, he committed fully to maximizing the health of his vines, choosing to farm organically and spending as much time as possible in the vineyards. His devotion paid off quickly, for in just a few vintages his name caught the attention of the Loire’s vignerons as well as Parisian wine bars, and eventually became known globally.
