Three Butterflies

12 x 12 inches Mix Media Oil Painting. “Three Butterflies” is a remembrance piece created to honor the Monarch butterfly. This summer, their presence was heartbreakingly scarce, and as the painting unfolded, the artist worked with the intention of inviting more butterflies back into our natural spaces—while also raising awareness about the importance of creating habitats that help them thrive. This mixed-media oil painting in abstract realism is built through many layered applications, each one adding depth, provenance, and a soft luminosity. The colors and textures come together to evoke a sense of sanctuary—a safe haven imagined for the butterflies we hope to see flourish once again.
