VK Drums Drum: Submariner Steel Snare Drum Size: 6.5x14 The submariner snare drum is a rolled and rivetted 904L steel shell (1.5mm thick). 904L is a very high grade of steel that is also used to make Rolex watches. The drum features VKast cast aluminum hoops. The tone is much brighter and has more "ping" than a standard steel shell. Similar brightness to a cast bronze shell, but much less thick.
