Thure de Thulstrup.  “Battle of Atlanta.” or “Siege of Atlanta, an Artillery Review.” Boston: Prang and Company, 1886-87.  14 5/8 x 20 ¾ (image).  Chromolithograph.  Framed with brass plaque on mat.  Very good condition.  A stirring print of the Battle of Atlanta during the American Civil War.  At the center of this image, General William T. Sherman receives news from the Union Army’s bombardment of Altanta.  Surrounding him on horseback are officers: Brigadier General William F. Barry (chief of artillery), Brigadier General John M. Corse (inspector-general), Colonel L.M. Dayton (An aide de camp) and Colonel Orlando M. Poe (chief of engineers).  Interestingly, de Thulstrup based his picture on a photograph, but cleaned up the battle worn Sherman, shaving his beard and straightening his collar.  This print was first issued by the Boston Prang firm, and then reissued a few years later by the American Lithographic Co.  The image was made by chromolithography, where each color was printe
