Gaines Parade Ground LIC

Fort Gaines’ parade ground. In left center are two buildings that once housed the fort’s provost marshal. Today, these buildings have been re-purposed as a visitor’s center and public rest rooms In far right center are the fort’s workshops, including the still-functional blacksmith shop. Sitting in the white patch on the left center of the image is the anchor from Admiral David Farragut’s flagship - the U.S.S. Hartford. A ruined barracks building sits in the lower left of the image.
