A series of roughly 160 diesel locos was built in the late 50s to early 60s by the Swedish firm Nydqvist och Holm AB. The common nickname "NoHAB" comes from their initials. These were built for railroads in several European countries, under license from the leading US locomotive maker of the era, the Electro Motive Division of General Motors. They feature an adaptation of the classic F-Unit "bulldog" nose, but with a cab on each end. Similar to American "E-Units", the trucks are A1A-A1A wheel arrangement, with the extra axles helping to spread out the weight for European track with lighter axle ratings. The vehicles differed in various details, such as the installed engine power, but
