The Naupaka is a shrub that grows near Hawaii coastlines and mountains with unique flowers look like they have been cut in half. Hawaiian legend tells of Naupaka and Kaui, two lovers who could not be together, taking a flower and breaking it in half to symbloize their love and longing to be reunited. One half went to the mountains, while the other stayed near the sea. The style of this design was inspired by the art of block printing.
