Did you know that Portugal once had an empire that ruled the world? Portuguese colonies and territories spanned all corners of the globe starting in the 15th Century and peaking in power and scope in the the early 19th Century. The trade routes created to bring exotic spices and goods back from far away lands to Europe, created some of the first global fusions of cuisine and flavors. While we don't honor the travesties of colonial conquerors, we have created a magical spice blend we call ‘Portuguese Allspice’ (Temperos Portugueses) to pay homage to all the peoples of Portugal’s former empire who contributed their culture and cuisine to this early globalization.
