The Silk Road,  by Thimbles and Acorns  The Silk Road dress was inspired by this traditional Chinese garment, a Shenyi, from the Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC). Traditional Chinese garments trace their beginnings to the Shang Dynasty (1600 - 1000 BC) from which each dynasty created its own unique style that was deep with symbolic meaning. These garments were inseparable from silk which tradition says was discovered by the Legendary Yellow Emperor’s consort, Leizu, (ca. 2698 - 2598 BC). The Silk Road dress pattern is an easy to make design that features a doubled-wrapped design that creates gracefully spiraled layers. The unique wrapping of the dress creates interesting angles that work well with striped and plaid fabrics. Two simple side ties are all that is required to fasten this fully lined dress, making it fun and easy to sew and put on. The simple styling adapts easily to both formal and casual wear. Bonus: This pattern includes a fun "Wrap a Snowman" version of this dress! Pattern #2
