Patricia Madeja, "In Memory of Roe V. Wade."
Pendant- 20" 18k gold, sterling silver, ruby,Amphora perfume (bottle ofperfume included for refilling). The amphora is an ancient vessel and symbolic for the female body. My amphora has become a symbol of loss and is trapped in a cage to emphasize the constraints forced upon women. The piece is fabricated in 18k gold and sterling silver to represent the preciousness of the female body and the high-price women are forced to pay when their inalienable rights are disregarded. The ruby is meant to remind us of the risks and bodily harm women continue to face. The amphora is filled with a perfume hand-crafted by the Vermont perfume company Ondine. It contains a mix of essential oils including Frankincense and Myrrh traditionally used in mourning rituals. This piece commemorates the battles women are still forced to fight for their health and well-being, reproductive rights, and autonomy over their own bodies.
