70 Days—Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage is ready for harvesting about two months after transplanting. They will hold in the garden for two or three weeks after they mature, but if left standing in the garden too long the heads will begin to split. Normal Packet: 50+ Seeds Cabbage seeds can be direct sown or started indoors. In regions with a short growing season, getting a head start indoors is the preferred method. Start seeds about four to six weeks before you plan to transplant the seedlings into your garden. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep. Before planting the seedlings outdoors, harden off the plants over the course of a week.
