Discovered in the far flung Philippines by dedicated plant collector Cuming, who built his own ship just to sail around and find new plants; Hoya Cumingiana was found clinging to windswept limestone cliffs. Both terrestrial and lithophytic (growing on soil and rocky places), ours are quite happy growing in their pots of soil. He's also sarmentose (loving to send runners or stems along the rocks or soil rooting happily where they may). You can expect this traveller to get pretty darn long at your house too. A pot full of strong, thin, twiny vines support identical twin, almond-shaped leaves in an exuberant, emerald green; waxy thick with strong, pronounced midveins and not much else decoration. Flowers are like this: a fat wax star in acid yellow/green with a smaller, deep burgundy star with orangy tips on top of that, and lastly a tiny, perfect, white star on top.
