Object 55: pluto pluto is located in the kuiper belt and rotates on it's side at a 120 degree axial tilt, it actually orbits outside itself! it is the largest trans-neptunian object (beyond neptune), ninth largest object and tenth most massive orbiting the sun! it takes about 5.5 hours for light from the sun to reach pluto. made primarily of ice and rock (mostly comprised of nitrogen ice) it has some of the most contrasting color of any object in our solar system. sometimes pluto's eccentric orbit (a 17 degree incline relative to other planets) brings it closer to the sun then neptune. about 1/6th of the size of our moon, pluto was the first object to be discovered in the kuiper belt. one plutonian year is 247.68 years long and has yet to make a full orbit around the sun since it's discovery in 1930. it also has a subsurface of liquid water! it's largest moon charon, and pluto's relative orbit, perhaps make the two a known as a double dwarf planet. elemental layers - starlight shi
