Valiant Grape (Vitis labrusca) is a one of the best of the few super hardy varieties available, Valiant has clusters of small dark-purple sweet and somewhat foxy flavored slipskin fruit that ripens very early, 1 month before Concord. The vigorous vine is very precocious, said to sometimes bear fruit the first year it is planted. Developed by Dr Ron Peterson (an SDSU graduate - class of 1944 - who came back from serving in WW2 to finish his degree) at South Dakota State University. Hardy down to -35 degrees F, zones 3-8.
