Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chen Xiang)

Alias:Honey Scent, Zan Scent, Chen Shui Xiang, Qi Nan Xiang Properties:Pungent, Bitter, Slightly Warm Pharmacological Effects: The decoction of Agarwood (沉香) has an inhibitory effect on the spontaneous contraction of guinea pig ileum in vitro, and can counteract spasm-induced contractions caused by histamine and acetylcholine. Intraperitoneal injection of a decoction of Agarwood in ethanol can slow down intestinal peristalsis induced by neostigmine in mice, exhibiting an antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle. In addition, Agarwood has sedative, tranquilizing, anesthetic, analgesic, antitussive, and antibacterial effects.
