We celebrate the tradition of 'ohe kāpala through a pattern created to represent growth and community, lovingly expressed on a dual sided pillow cover featuring olive and sand color tones on a gentle mauve backdrop. 'Ohe kāpala is traditional Hawaiian kapa stamping. The name refers to both the ancient practice and the bamboo tools used to apply the patterns. In Hawaiian kapa art, geometric patterns including triangles are incorporated to represent various concepts, such as growth, community, and the nourishing waters that sustain the land.  The tools: ʻOhe kāpala are stamps carved from sections of ʻohe (bamboo). Geometric designs were carefully carved into one end of the bamboo. The process: Artisans use these stamps with natural plant-based dyes to imprint repetitive patterns onto kapa, or barkcloth.
