Water Lettuce | Pistia stratioes

Water Lettuce plants is often referred to as "water cabbage", as it resembles a head of cabbage. Like water hyacinths, Water Lettuce provides coverage and helps control algae by absorbing nutrients. The foliage of this plant is unique in that it is ribbed and velvety. Lettuce prefers some shade in hotter climates and the leaves will yellow if in direct sun.  Water temperatures must be 65 degrees when adding this plant to your water garden. Water lettuce will not tolerate freezing temperatures or cold water.
