Dwarf-Medium Red Single-Petal Lotus Planting Instructions Lotus should be planted in a wide, shallow container using loam soil. Fill your lotus container 2/3 full of loam soil. Dig a shallow trench across the surface of the soil. Gently place your lotus tuber in the trench, taking care not to damage or break the growth tips. Cover all but the growth tips with soil, leaving the growth tips exposed. Gently add with 2 - 4 inches of water above surface of the soil. Place your lotus container in a sunny area outdoors, lotus need 8 - 12 hours of sunlight to grow and bloom.
