Tall Red Single-Petal How to plant your lotus Plant your lotus tuber when nights are consistently in the 50's or warmer. Use a wide (24 - 48")  shallow, no-holes container using loam soil. NEVER USE POTTING SOIL! Fill your container 3/4 full with loam soil. Dig a shallow trench in the soil and gently place your lotus tuber in the trench. Be careful not to break or damage the growth tips!  Cover all but the growth tips with an inch of soil, (the growth tips need sunlight to stimulate growth). Gently add two to four
