This magnificent image of the opera Aida - originally created by Hanson, circa 1924 - promoted travel on the Chicago Elevated Lines to cultural institutions in the city. The Civic Opera House - built by Samuel Insull - opened on November 4, 1929 - six days after the Stock Market crash.
