Shisa!

Make your own Shisa in this 2-day handbuilding workshop with Dane Nakama. Called a Shisa, Singha, Komainu, and by many other names - throughout Asia these mythical guardian lions or lion dogs have protected homes and families for centuries. Dane will guide you through a variety of handbuilding techniques to bring your own guardian dog to life.  This is a level 2 handbuilding workshop. Some handbuilding experience required to get the full benefit of the class.  Dane Hiʻipoi Nakama is a Japanese-Uchinanchu ceramicist and educator from Oʻahu whose art often explores themes of cultural hybridity, settler colonialism, indigeneity, and ancestral knowledge.
