Wheel Throwing: Tableware

In this ten-week class, students will design and create a 6 piece place setting. The goal is to make with intention, translating a design plan into a thrown object with a cohesive aesthetic through-line between the different forms. Foundational pieces will include plates, bowls, and mugs. Students will build their skills in making multiples, matching profiles between forms of differing sizes, trimming, and throwing with precision and intention. Additional projects will include a punctuation piece for the table such as a thrown and altered vase as well as a nesting bowl set. Glazing and glazing techniques will be discussed as a way to achieve cohesion and act as a backdrop for food presentation.
