More than a decade before the .30 Gov't '06 round was adapted by the US military, and even before the adoption of the .30-03, the military adopted a new small bore round called the .30 -40 Krag (also called the .30 Army or .30 U.S.). This was a major advancement from the previous military round, the .45-70.   A rimmed cartridge designed for lever action rifles; Winchester never offered the 30-40 Krag as a chambering for the model 70. But for a few fans of this cartridge, they didn't let Winchester's exclusion of the 30-40 Krag in the model 70 lineup stop them. This rifle is a testament to one man's enduring loyalty in 1938 to a cartridge already 46 years old and technologically eclipsed by other 30 caliber rounds.
