The African Butterfly Fish, or Pantodon buchholzi, is a unique freshwater fish found in bodies of water in West Africa. They are well known for their unique shape, with large pectoral "wings" which resemble that of a butterfly. They are peaceful but territorial carnivores, so they are likely to compete for space and food if not offered enough of either. They can grow to be about 4-6" in length. In optimal conditions, these butterfly fish can live for up to 10 years in captivity. Some potential tankmates include other generally peaceful and mild-mannered species, such as tetras, cory catfish, and dwarf cichlids.
