This book records some of the most powerful sermons ever put into print, most being delivered during the "killing times" in Scotland. These faithful preachers were daily in danger of losing their earthly lives for their testimony to the truth of Christ's kingship (which they proclaim here) -- and many were eventually martyred for His covenanted cause. The original title of this book, instructive in itself, reads in part: "A Collection of Lectures and Sermons Preached upon Several Subjects, Mostly in the Time of the Late Persecution. Wherein a Faithful Doctrinal Testimony is Transmitted to Posterity for the Doctrine, Worship, Discipline and Government of the Church of Scotland against Popery, Prelacy, Erastianism, etc.... and a Sermon on the Breach of Covenant by Mr. John Guthrie."
