~20 lbs Broccoli Rabe aka "Rapini", "Broccoli Raab", "Xi-Lan-Hua-La-Bei", "西兰花拉贝", "西蘭花拉貝" Broccoli rabe is a green cruciferous vegetable with the leaves, buds, and stems all edible. The buds somewhat resemble broccoli but do not form a large head. The stalks are thin and generally six to nine inches in length. It is known for its slightly bitter taste and is particularly associated with Mediterranean cuisine. Broccoli rabe is available year-round. Handling Tip Selection Broccoli rabe has a uniform green color with no signs of yellowing or wilting. Choose broccoli rabe with fewer buds and fewer open flowers. Storage Broccoli rabe should be stored at 32°F (0°C) with a relative humidity of more than ninety-five percent and lightly mist. The typical shelf life is five to seven days. Broccoli rabe is sensitive to ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that regulates ripening. Broccoli rabe should not be stored with high ethylene-producing products to extend shelf life and avoid yellowing. Broccoli rabe produces a low level of ethylene. Broccoli rabe is moderately sensitive to chilling injury.
