Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak Pineau Cask Finish Speyside Whisky Balvenie French Oak Pineau Cask Finish is an exploration of the flavors and aromas of pineau.  The Balvenie was first introduced to Pineau des Charentes casks by the Malt Master after a trip to Bordeaux with his family. French wine casks are becoming more popular, providing an interesting flavor profile that is reminiscent of cognac, while being distinctly different. The Balvenie French Oak will be the first in our range of finishes so it's only fitting that we start with what David C Stewart MBE calls 'one of my most challenging and rewarding brand expressions ever'. Pineau des Charentes is a fortified wine made from unfermented grape juice, to which a Cognac eau-de-vie is added and then matured. Pineau us also found as a home-made product in the neighbouring Deau-Sevres and Vendee departements.
