Robinson, Chinook Nationacrylic on paper19" high x 24" widePainting inspired by the Bone River Nature Preserve, a 2,800 acre preserve containing the finest salt marshes remaining in Willapa Bay, Washington where the artist is from. The preserve, on traditional Chinook land, includes tideflats, sloughs, freshwater streams, freshwater wetlands and conifer forests. The preserve provides critically important waterfowl habitat, supports the federally-threatened marbled murrelet and state sensitive bald eagle, and hosts runs of steelhead and coho salmon. Traditionally, the Chinook built their longhouses on the shores of rivers. Greg A. Robinson, born in 1957, is a member of the Chinook Indian Nation located in Bay Center, Washington. Primarily self taught, Robinson has been an artist since childhood, with an early fascination for wildlife and tribal art after receiving a small carved canoe as a gift.
