19th Century French Verdure Tapestry with oval Pastoral Scene

Antique 19th century, French Verdure Tapestry with an oval-shaped pastoral scene with water mill, figures in dress of the period and hunting dog surrounded by a frame of blooming wild roses on a light green background. This traditionally verdure woven wool piece depicts a traditional scene in a natural, garden-like setting for which verdure tapestries are known and is done in natural greens, browns, whites, reds, pale yellows and touches of blue. The tranquil scene shows a hunter with his dog in a field edged by a wood, opposite which runs a road down which a rider is traveling to a wooded grove in the distance and a shepherd sits tending his sheep in a field. On the edge of the field runs a river which drives a water wheel attached to a timbered mill and an attached stone granary. A fisherman sits on a wooden dock over the stream, waiting for a bite on his line submerged in the stream. Up the bank behind him and the granary the property ends with a wooden fence, behind which rises a mountain panorama. This tapestry measures 61" wide and 31" high and has a woven wool textured trim with mitered corners that finish the edges. The back is covered in hand sewn-on olive green linen with a top woven linen rod pocket with a row of small loops to accommodate hanging from drapery hooks for most secure hanging (allows the tapestry to be hung at many points to relieve the stress on the fibers. The back has been attached to the front at a few intermittent spots as well to put less stress on the fibers when the textile is hung.) In overall good condition with no tears, breaks, snags, holes. Fading and tiny spotting from use and age; one small discolored spot on the bottom edge and some evidence on the bottom of a spot treatment - see details in photos or send message for additional photos.
