Like wisps of cloud over the mountain, snow leopards are an elusive but powerful presence in the alpine and subalpine zones of Central Asia. As top predator and as an indicator of the vitality of their environment, snow leopards are key to maintaining health and balance for countless other species. Protecting their habitat indirectly benefits the many other species that make up their ecological community, such as plants and animals pictured here: Sikkim Blushwort, the orchid Calanthe tricarinata, the Indian roller bird, and the moth, Lotaphora iridicolor.
