Medium Japanese Maple Bowl

This Japanese Maple bowl has warm, smooth grain.  It came from an aged tree in the Newtown, PA area which was taken down due to disease, evidenced by small worm holes and black spalting.  The bowl is 8" x 3.5" and is finished with food safe oils and wax, which gives it a low luster appearance to bring out the natural colors of the grain.  The grain is warm in tone and has a distinctive wavy pattern that makes this anything but plain.  The rim has a slight raised band to enhance definition.  The openness of the bowl shape and its size make this idea for salads, small fruit or other serving applications.  It is signed by the artist on the bottom, along with the wood species.
