Presenter: Carolyn Denton, Ph. D. For over 20 years, Dr. Denton collaborated on scientific research in which she developed and evaluated reading interventions for students with or at-risk for reading difficulties, including dyslexia. In this session, she will share the practical implications of this research for educators. First, she will describe the current scientific understanding of dyslexia. Then, the majority of the session will be devoted to a discussion of interventions for students with dyslexia and other word-level reading difficulties. Dr. Denton will describe the general approaches to intervention and treatment that have evidence of effectiveness for these students and approaches that do not have support from scientific research. She will describe the critical components of effective instruction for students with dyslexia.
