Grown by smallholder farmers in the Gedeb community of southern Ethiopia, Banko Chelchele represents the kind of collaborative effort that makes Ethiopian coffee so unique. Families and neighbors harvest coffee together, handpicking ripe cherries from small backyard gardens before delivering them to the local washing station. Instead of being fully washed, this lot underwent the honey process—a method where the skin of the fruit is removed but some of the sticky fruit mucilage remains on the seed as it dries on raised beds. The result is a cup with layered sweetness and vibrant fruit character.
