Moon Jars are from Korea starting around the 15th century. They are usually made by combining two half spheres, like 2 big bowls, to create the shape. The ones I've been making are just a singe piece of clay. This one's a 25 pounder! Made of 25% white stoneware, 75% porcelain cone 10 soda fired. I put water soaked paper cut out x's onto the pot, poured a flashing slip (watered down clay materials to help with the nice warm orange color) and then carved lines through the slip. The black specks are from adding coal and coke ash into the firing, as those particles flew through the kiln they stuck on pots and melted as dark specks.
