Positively, the Canons state and explain thoroughly and carefully the doctrines of grace on the basis of Scripture. Negatively, they defend these doctrines by exposing and rejecting errors that contradict and militate against the teaching of Scripture. The author treats the text of the Canons article by article, clarifying the translation where necessary and explaining both the positive teaching and the rejection of errors. Moreover, the volume also contains historical sections and documents that help to clarify both the history and the issues involved in the meeting and work of the Synod of Dordt.
