Serach kippah (MADE TO ORDER: the original sold at a craft fair!)

Sukkot, The Festival of Booths, is an occasion to invite honored ancestral guests, into this outside, temporary dwelling. In the past, these Ushpizzin were usually men, although there have been spiritual teachings which included the Four Mothers as well as other notable women from the Torah, such as Miriam. One of these lists also included Serach, which inspired me to make this  beaded wire kippah. A descendant of Jacob, she broke the news to him that his son, Joseph, was still alive and living in Egypt, probably by singing and playing a soft musical instrument, which is why I have included music charms. She was said to have confirmed Moses' legitimacy as the one who would lead Israel out of Egypt, by means of a code phrase which contained the Hebrew word meaning "I will surely redeem". This Hebrew word, "pakad'ti", is spelled out in white bugle beads. She also was said to have solved a dispute over what the waves of the Red Sea looked like during the Exodus.
