Time for Toms
Performance Notes TIME FOR TOMS is a fast piece in cut time. This piece is suited for more advanced middle school to high school-level percussionists. Rhythmically, TIME FOR TOMS consists of quarter and paired 1/8th notes with ¼, ½ and whole rests. TIME FOR. TOMS, starts in f with a call-and-response led by the conga drum. Letter A continues similarly with the bongos taking the lead, accompanied by the suspended cymbal and tambourine. The snare drum and toms lead the ensemble into letter B where the tom-toms are featured. Here, the 3 toms play in mf with a repetitive, inter-dependent rhythm pattern while gradually, the other instruments are added. At letter D, the entire ensemble returns to f playing almost entirely in unison until the end. There are ample rests at this point; therefore, careful attention is a must for each player.
