Featured is a wonderful antique barrel jail lock. Locks have been in use for over 6000 years. Very early examples were discovered in the ruins of Nineveh, the capital of ancient Assyria. Locks were later developed into the Egyptian wooden pin lock, which consisted of a bolt, door fixture or attachment, and key. Padlocks developed their basic shape of lock body, shackle and key very early. Padlocks are small, hardy, and convenient to use. There is an American Lock Collectors Association that was founded in 1970. The Journal of Lock Collecting is published 5 times a year.
