LABEL: RelapseVINYL RELEASE DATE: 2021ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE: 1993VARIANT: Black Vinyl LP Death’s fifth frenetic and feverishly-inspired full-length once again pushed founder Chuck Schuldiner’s vision to the extreme. Despite that album title, though, 1993’s Individual Thought Patterns is a true team effort, with the release also expertly incorporating the melodic and maleficent flair of King Diamond shredder Andy LaRocque, the slip-sliding jazz-death slinkiness of bassist Steve Di Giorgio and the kit-wrecking aplomb of master drummer Gene Hoglan. It’s an album full of brutal progressive weirdness, but it also got an unexpected mainstream bump when Beavis and Butthead spotlighted closing crusher “The Philosopher” on MTV.
