Vaccines and Medical Care in Uganda

Vaccination against childhood diseases is one of the easiest ways to prevent serious illness, along with the associated costs of medical care. The cost of vaccinating one child in Uganda is $25 USD, but the average household income in rural areas is $1.90 per day. For families with multiple children, even the low cost of vaccination is out of reach. Mosquito nets also offer a low-cost way to reduce illness by limiting the exposure to mosquito-borne diseases.  If an individual is unlucky enough to get cancer, the costs of treatment and housing near the urban hospital can be insurmountable.
