Human Trafficking Prevention in Uganda
In late April, 2022, Stella was abducted along the road while walking home to her village of Njwejwe. When she didn't arrive home as expected, her family feared for her safety, but they couldn't pay for the radio announcements needed to get the word out. Generous donations made it possible. Within days of publishing announcements in local trading centers, her village leaders were getting phone calls with information and the search effort was refocused to follow the trail, finally resulting in Stella's release and recovery. Officials agree that the quick community response and published announcements made the difference in recovering Stella safely. In Stella's honor, Revy has established this fund to make it possible to respond just as quickly to any future incidents of trafficking in the underserved and largely rural Eastern District.
