Who doesn’t love a ‘rags-to-riches’ tale? ‘Design Like…’ returns with the hugely decorative next installment featuring the British pottery designer, Clarice Cliff. Follow the story of how this Staffordshire girl made it from the shop floor to the company Art Director in a triumphant and meteoric rise that seemed unlikely for a woman in the art business. Clarice’s whimsical and dramatic designs of storybook cottages, wild, oversized flowers, flaming autumn trees, Vogue-style ladies, and jigsaw-puzzle abstracts cheered the Depression-era generation, and brought art into the homes of everyday people. Clarice Cliff’s inclusion in The Dictionary of Art cemented her place in art history as a tastemaker and pioneer of the Art Deco style. This class will be recorded for those who can’t log on live.
