Fordite Necklace - Small
Fordite is a slice of American History! Also called “Detroit agate” or “motor agate” & cut and polished like a gemstone. It takes almost 1000 layers of paint baked 50+ times to form a 1 inch thick piece of this rare upcycled material. Between 1920-1980, USA auto makers spray painted car bodies by hand, overspray accumulated, & over time, layer upon colorful layer built up. The pieces of enamel paint slag were repeatedly hardened in the ovens in which the cars went to cure the paint. Eventually, groups of factory workers started salvaging the material, and it has been upcycled into fine art & jewelry! Each piece is a unique slice of this rare material & a true collector's piece of American history! *Choose your exact piece #1-9, left to right Authentic Fordite slices Each is custom set in solid .925 sterling silver to perfectly secure the cabochon 16-18"with extender attached 925 sterling silver chain e-coated to prevent tarnish Can be slid off chain to use the chain f
