Big Tusker in the Trees

On foot, our camping gear on our backs, my hosts and I spent a few hot sweaty weeks tracking several itinerant prides of maneless lions, and an enormous herd of spirited elephants, as they went about their daily business along the banks of the Galana river, in Tsavo East National Park, in Kenya. While we also encountered plenty of Cape buffalo, black rhinos and leopards, I’ve always been partial to the charm of elephants and lions.
